Accessibility

When designing the flow and layout of your Forms, it is important to keep accessibility in mind. To help bolster the creation of accessible Forms, all Form Studio Elements have been created to be inclusive and accessible, and to comply with the W3C Web Contents Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard. To find out more about the standard, click on the following link:

Anyone with a disability can confidently use an NDL Digitise Form, and the Elements included within the Elements Gallery are routinely tested to ensure that compliance to the above standard is maintained, predominantly using assistive technologies.

Included in the list of properties and features that have been incorporated into Form Elements to make sure they remain accessible are:

  • The careful use of colour contrast and avoidance of strong colours.
  • The provision of alternative text and captions for images.
  • The use of clean and intuitive Element and component design.
  • Clear and consistent navigation.
  • The use of resizeable text.
  • Keyboard accessibility (i.e., the ability to use Elements without a mouse).
  • The use of focus indicators.
  • The ability to use Elements with a dedicated reader.
  • The coding of the Elements' underlying HTML to ensure compliance through the use of the correct styles, tags, and properties etc.

For information on how to reference individual Elements' properties within custom JavaScript, see the dedicated Accessible Properties topic.

  • Any customisations made to Elements including the addition of images and the use of different colours etc., should be thoroughly tested and validated before being implemented to make sure they comply with accessibility standards.
